So I guess I owe everyone an update.

So, with the exception of the bit where Whir’s apartment is like 90 degrees with the windows open at night on days when it’s freezing and raining, and the bit where his landlord is rather less than friendly, life in the UP is good times.

So good, in fact, that variously in Marquette and Iron Mountain I’ve noticed a few things. Like the minivan Whir pointed out to me that has a staircase on the roof. Honest to god stairs, with a railing and the whole bit. Bizzare. Probably even more bizzare than the lowrider minivan with the spoiler and the flames painted on the front in IM. There’s also the “What a friend we have in Jesus” sign on the Dairy Queen in IM, which struck me as a pretty Marechalian sort of thing to do, if not a bit…disturbing. Too, there were also the two pretty much destroyed cars in the parking lot here. And by destroyed I mean “not moving anywhere under their own power without more repair than it’s worth.” These cars were…bad.

Aside from that, well, time flies when you’re having fun, and such as that. Playing various sorts of D&D, with Whir and Tim, who observant readers will recognize from the handful of appearances here or the more frequent ones on Whir’s blog, or Whir and John, who you don’t know, but Whir and I do. And basically what needs to be said about that whole thing is that Weenog rules. The whole worg-riding Goblin Paladin/Duelist thing has so much style, I can barely contain myself.

Also, we played some BT, which pretty much resulted in me getting thrashed, because when you’ve only got 6 30 tonners and a Locust, all IS tech, fighting the Clans who have a Warhammer IIC isn’t going to work that well. Nevertheless, stealth armor is my new favorite tech item. More fun than is legal.

Also, we’ve been playing a lot of Battlefield: Vietnam. A lot. BFV is like that. Also, rum and BFV have interesting results.

I bought Viking Invasion, the xpack for Medieval: Total War the other day. Played it last night, and this morning, and would’ve kept playing it had my eyes held out, because it’s just that fun. The Viking Campaign rocks so far – after my grueling late game with the Italians, which involved me going “Hey, Sicilians. I’m taking your entire country in one turn.” and them going for it, a game where I’m only fighting with 5 or 6 units in a battle is exceedingly refreshing. Not to mention all the setting changes and such. So lots of fun. And it’s making me want to do something like Kings of the French again. Eep.

So that’s gaming. The other thing we’ve been doing is going to bars, because Whir, being Whir, is in fact in a band, and every so often they actually, you know, play things. And when they do it’s pretty cool. And then they try to get me drunk. Which in the case of this weekend, worked pretty well, insofar as I, having downed 4-5 Smirinoff Ices inside of an hour and a half or so, came back to the table to find myself confronted with a shot, and Tim up on stage saying “Did you take that shot?” So, being the obliging sort that I am, I downed the thing. And nobody told me it was tequila. Erk. That stuff goes down hard without all the ritualistic stuff. It also sent me hurtling over the precipice of drunkenness, so they succeeded pretty well.

And that’s about that. I’m going off to play some more VI, and you’re, well, not. Which means it’s good to be me and not so good to be you.

I’m going to tease you with a few pictures now. Since a certain person just so happens to want them, you get to see them too. Thusly:

Stephanie and I at Buckingham Palace
Stephanie in front of le Cinquantenaire, Brussels
Stephanie the tourist in the Jardin des Tulleries, Paris
Look ma! We’re on the Eiffel Tower!

And when you try to get him to talk about it, he gets all nervous and stares at his shoes.

I see how it is, i don’t get mentioned for BF:V at all. You’ve earned yourself a few cruel assassinations by knife.

Awwww, grats sweetie! Now you can give Whir’s poor poophole a break. By the way, have you found the tree limb up there yet? I can pay you a whole $7 to fish it out. It’s be a good investment, he won’t be such a pain in the ass then.

Ha! Joke!

1)Hi Stephanie!
2)Woah, Dwip. You ARE skinny.
3)That guy to your right in the Eiffel Tower pic looks like Uncle Junior from the Sopranos. At least from this angle.

I’ve been accused of it in the past, yeah. Once or twice.

You honestly have no idea how skinny he really is. The pictures make him look fat. Honest.

I’m seriously not joking.

This is also true.
