BT Map Ponderances

Yeah, it’s been like 5 years since I was able to seriously play Battletech. Since that’s going to change, however, a few notes to myself re: that huge mapset project I started way back when and never finished.

– Man, CC2 is SO 2007. I bet I could get way better looking maps in CC3. Probably a template that doesn’t make me want to claw my eyes out, too. Most notably, I can do way better building graphics than that with CD3. Also must get trees that do not suck horrendously.

– Really, really gotta fix up the lines, etc for visibility.

– When I hit OR, I’ve really got to get ahold of some heavy weight paper and finish printing off the rest of the two mapsets I already did. That’s like 13 maps right there.

– I’ve also got that 3rd mapset hanging out there with nothing in it but the one map. As I recall, the idea was to use some of the more interesting Max Tech terrain to mix things up – lava, tundra, ice, that sort of thing. A couple other things that might be worth doing:

– A two map set of the interior of the mech/aerofighter bay on a warship/dropship. Corridors and what have you. Openings to space. Could be epic.

– A two-three map set of tundra. Probably straight up tundra/deep snow, something with an ice river, and some sort of ice lake. Hard to differentiate this from handwaving normal maps covered in snow.

– A two-four map volcano set, with a crater map, some lava flows, maybe a burned out forest. Rubble. Elevation changes. Excitement.

– There must be a way to make an interesting jungle map, though I’m not sure how. Some kind of cliffs and waterfalls and clearings with ruins thing.

We’ll see if I ever get around to any of this, of course.

Good luck. Personally, I think maps are great even if they’re made with CC2 instead of CC3 just because they’re at least made. ;)

Is that the story you’re sticking with? :D

Well, that and I planned most of said D&D campaign 5 years ago, so it’s mainly just re-reading my notes.

Well, the notes for the part where I bothered to take them, anyway. Since, as we were discussing on IM, there’s a whole climactic battle with dire weasels I apparently forgot all about.

 I see. I’ve been there before myself. It’s really amazing how much of your planning you forget in five years though. ;)
