Express Yourself

So, I’m getting reminded that I have a duty to recap last weekend’s D&D session. And we’ll get to that in due course.

For the moment, however, I’m going to be doing a bit more YouTube pimping as illustration of a point. See, when I’m working on stuff, I, like many other people, like to listen to music. Where I break with a lot of people is that I generally listen to the same song or two over and over and over again. Helps me concentrate.

The problem? I don’t always get to have an active choice in what those songs are. My brain gets a vote too, and it’s not always entirely consistent about things:

So we got your gangsta rap.

We got your 80s throwback pop.

We got your badass keyboard electronica.

And we got your wholly different acoustic versions of your 80s throwback pop.

Yeah, I don’t really know either.

Hey, at least I don’t go for really rephrehensible stuff, like country. :P

At least country you can understand the words, and they’re not “singing” about killing cops and “fight the powa” all the time.

Notice how, out of NWA’s offerings, you haven’t seen Fuck Tha Police up here for some reason. Mostly only cool in the Chris Rock context. Fight the Power, however, is one of the best Public Enemy songs, and perhaps I’m being biased here, but rather transcendent of the genre. But I actually really like me some PE, who I don’t think are really gansta rap in the first place, so.

Country, maybe not so much. I was a rural kid. I’ve heard more than my share.
