An Evening Drive

Right around 4:30 today, I said to myself “Self, you need to get out of the house. How’s the weather right now? Not raining? Perfect.”

For a while now, I’ve been meaning to go back out in the hills and try and get some sunset type shots. Since I didn’t have time to go where I originally wanted to go, I decided to go back to our old friends Llewellyn Road and Finley Wildlife Refuge and see what I could see.

Things were seen.

You may recall Llewellyn Road from this series from October. It’s a little less clear out than last time, but I think that’s probably ok.

There was a moment as I was driving down 99 in which I looked right out my side window and said “whoa, whoa, time out. I need to find a place to pull over RIGHT NOW.” As I have discovered previously, out past the blue barns on Llewellyn is the place to be doing that.

I’m not generally a fan of sunsets in Oregon. Usually there are just way too damn many clouds and too much rain to be interesting, or it’s too clear and there’s nothing in the air to make it interesting.

Sometimes you get lucky.

Water reflections! Clouds! Amazing landscapes!

Again, lucky. With all these clouds this could have gone so disastrously wrong.

I also decided to take a drive out to that random overlook at Finley I didn’t know existed before a couple years ago. As you can see, this was not the worst idea I have ever had.

In fact, maybe a really really good idea.

It’s a good thing I like clouds. We certainly get enough of them.

I decided that whole “water reflections at sunset” thing was also a good idea, so here, have a couple of those, too.

I also thought the Greenberry Store sign looked kind of cool lit up, so I decided to play a bit with it. I’m not overly thrilled with the results – something about either the way I was holding the camera, the light, or the weird angles of the buildings made all my shots come out weird. Oh well.

And a bit of playing with the macro function. Not entirely sold, but we’ll work on it.
