On Hunting

[22:20] Tonto_Marechal: No. The ONLY DOS games I ever played were Doom (i & ii), Duke Nukem, and Wolfenstein … might have been two of those too … but yeah. Only DOS games I ever played. Unless Oregon Trail counts. =p [22:20] Dwip: Apple IIe Oregon Trail for the win. [22:21] Dwip: Your attempt to ford the river has failed. [22:22] Tonto_Marechal: lol. Lotta memories… not so much of making it to Oregon though. [22:22] Dwip: Do it by the end of lunch if you didn’t mess around hunting too much. [22:23] Dwip: OTOH, hunting WAS that fun. [22:25] Tonto_Marechal: Hunting was amazing. Like … like as amazing as the first time you liberate Holy Jerusalem from the despotic, godless, […]

On the Political Rabbit
By Dwip November 8, 2006 at 1:38 pm Comments (13) RSS Feed for this post

So I haven’t particularly been talking about politics on here for a while, being still worn out from that whole ’04 mess, wherein we all kind of went off the deep end for a few months. But I do want to note a few things, post-election. 1. I did not, to be honest, actually vote. Had I still been registered as an Oregon voter I would have, though I wouldn’t have been excited about my choices – OR conservatives are a scary bunch in general, and Kulongoski’s not exactly the greatest governor we’ve ever had, really. However, since I’m now a CT voter, and I’m brand new in the state, I found that I didn’t like the idea of trying […]

Blast From the Past
By Dwip February 2, 2006 at 9:05 pm Comments (2) RSS Feed for this post

Anybody who reads here and actually cares already knows that DS has, in Godlike fashion, caused the old Tonto forums from days of yore to rise from the dead. Thus providing us with endless Marechal quotes, of course. One of which I will relate to you momentarily, as I am too preoccupied with fixing my laptop and trying to make my desktop not shoot blue flames from the fan port upon the release of Oblivion, which I guess has specs so high only about five people are going to be able to run it. I garuntee to you that Whir, Samson, and I will be among them. Save your spot now. If presented with a choice wherein the HD on […]

Napoleon Tauntage
By Dwip April 26, 2005 at 7:37 pm Comments (2) RSS Feed for this post

We’re on a roll today. Quoth Whir: We need to have an entire website dedicated to Marechal conversations. Me: Napoleon lost, though. Besides, he completely subverted the Revolution. Which isn’t to say that the Revolution didn’t need subverting, but when the whole goal of the thing is to ESCAPE monarchy, well. But it’s, you know, the French. Can’t do anything right. Marechal: Napoleon abolished the monarchy! Me: Yeah, you could sort of say he did. Except then he set himself up, which sort of, you know, defeats the purpose. Marechal: As Emperor. Me: Because, you know, changing the name makes your dictatorship that much better than other, wannabe dictatorships. Me: Whir: Ask him how he feels about giant airships, steam-powered […]

“I liked the fact Bush was willing to beat down the moderator in debate 2. He’s the President of the United States of friggin’ America. He should have kicked his ass. I would have.” Also… “So Marius! Guess what! I went to a live concert thing on campus this last week!!! I went to a ………………. PIPE ORGAN CONCERT!”

I Fought the Law…
By Dwip March 21, 2004 at 5:45 pm Comments (9) RSS Feed for this post

Well, I didn’t really, but one sec on that. Let’s see. It’s been a while since I’ve blogged anything of substance. Got my grades back, and I did about like I expected: bombed the one class, barely passed the others, waded through my 407 class. That having been done, I’m on track to formally graduate in the spring. Life is good. The orgy of computer gaming has succeeded beyond my wildest dreams, almost. There will be new Civ by the time I leave on Saturday, and I’ve played a whole bunch of other stuff, including the newly acquired Battlefield: Vietnam. It made me buy a new video card to play it, and I must say that so far it’s been […]

Out of Context
By Dwip February 10, 2004 at 4:15 pm Comments (1) RSS Feed for this post

Because out of context Marechal quotes make the world go ’round, or something. Or, you think it would, but no, no I can’t let the opportunity go by. *brings out the ol’ moral superiority stick* Yeah, that’s right. I’m going to keep 0wnZ|ng you with this stick until I see fit to stop. =p Oh hell yeah.

Quest For Fire
By Dwip January 26, 2004 at 7:17 am Comments (5) RSS Feed for this post

Because our world revolves around totally out of context Marechal quotes. You have sent a message! So tell me. What do you think about that new invention they came up with, fire? You have received a message! Change is bad. I’m strongly opposed to fire in all its forms, shapes, and uses. We must protect the sanctity of our fireless abodes.

Know Your Enemy

Courtesy of Marechal, wildly out of context: “Secret police perform useful functions in their service to the state and fear motivates the population and the machinery of government. Squirrel aliens with M-4s is just madness, communist madness.” In other news, I finished my paper. It is truly teh suck, but I finished it. EDIT: For today’s other wildly out of context Marechal quote… “I look good in a Soviet black KGB overcoat though with the armband and hammer&sickle medals.” At last, we know the truth…

Study Breakage
By Dwip December 3, 2003 at 5:12 pm Comments (5) RSS Feed for this post

So, I took a nap earlier. For 3 hours. I’m more exhausted now than when I started. Anybody care to explain that? Also, I’m hating this paper. I know what I want to say, but I can’t get it out in any coherent way. To explain this, I shall quote to you a conversation with Marechal. Just as a warning, Napoleon IS mentioned. Viewer discretion advised. Me: “And instead of the differences between Jeffersonian Republicans, Jacksonian Democrats, and later Republicanism and Federalism, the only thing I can think of is the Mosh Mosh Revolution strip from Megatokyo. Go figure.” Me: “When I’m stressed out, I don’t sleep well.” Me: “Too, stress gives me mad writer’s block, which is usually a […]

Stranger In A Strange Land
By Dwip October 9, 2003 at 8:18 pm Comments (2) RSS Feed for this post

More Marechalisms. Him, then me, etc. The HRE in the 16th century is fascinating. I want to delve more into that. Luther’s Reformation. THE Charles V. Maximilian. Wallenstein. White Mountain. Mohacs. Gustavus Adolphus’ mixed legions. Rise of the glorious and honorable mode of warfare, although not quite so evident during the Rennaisance. That was like the in-between stage of warfare. Awkward introduction of gunpowder. Old meets the new. Etc. The Thirty Years War is SO not honorable in any way shape or form. But yeah. I do want to do some reading on the period. Need a good general history of France, and a good general history of Spain, and a good general history of Germany. Right, well, yeah, the […]

Cult of Personality
By Dwip August 31, 2003 at 3:49 pm Comments (5) RSS Feed for this post

Because Toast wanted me to post this. Not as funny as it might’ve been, and I didn’t ACTUALLY call Nappy a loser, but oh well. Marechal: What a life Napoleon led. One day he is an underpaid foreign officer without an appointment… then he was a European Emperor ruling from Lisbon to Warsaw, Vienna, Paris, Rome, and all of Europe at his feet and a million soldiers under his banners…. and then he’s a lonely, poor old man on a God-forsaken rock in the south Atlantic. Wow. Me: And of those, one is a good career goal. :P Marechal: Just … amazing story. Two human stories, above all else, fascinate me. The story of our Lord Jesus Christ and the […]
